Role Description

As an Associate at Orchid Black, you will focus on client engagements across our core service lines. You will have the opportunity to work with businesses in a broad range of industries and sizes (growth-stage startups, SMBs, and Enterprises). Your work will involve identifying strategic opportunities, conducting research and financial analysis, and developing actionable insights to help our clients achieve their objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • General
    • Proactively manage your workload and collaborate with other associates and operating partners across multiple projects & initiatives.
    • Regularly contribute to process improvements and best practices
    • Report on progress and provide relevant information during project reviews
    • Review and provide guidance/assistance to other team members
    • Participate/contribute in regularly scheduled company calls & meetings
  • Client Services
    • Design and lead projects from concept to execution, aligning resources and stakeholders to achieve strategic objectives.
    • Conduct comprehensive market research and in-depth competitor analysis to identify strategic opportunities and differentiation points.
    • Perform company due diligence across product, sales, operations, and talent, delivering actionable recommendations to enhance company value.
    • Remain fully informed on market trends, current research, and best practices.
    • To inform decision-making and strategy, utilize advanced financial modeling techniques, including scenario planning and cash flow analysis.
    • Develop and deliver clear, visually compelling presentations communicating strategic insights to internal and external stakeholders.
    • Manage teams and projects, ensuring accountability, seamless progress, and effective collaboration.
  • Business Development
    • Support business development by building pitches, creating target lists, and identifying new opportunities and potential partnerships.
    • Participate in scoping & estimation of effort for new client engagements.

Qualifications:

  • 2-4 years of experience in private equity, consulting, market research, or a similar analytical role. (Masters Degree or MBA a plus).
  • Proven ability to strategize and execute projects or initiatives from concept to launch.
  • Strong analytical skills, comfortable with qualitative and quantitative data
  • Problem-solving and critical thinking - analyzing and simplifying complex issues; identifying problems and operational bottlenecks; developing potential solutions; and implementing and executing them
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship management skills.  Ability to work with agile culture with a mix of different personality types. Must have proven ability to influence others to achieve results
  • Strong organizational skills –must be comfortable managing (and prioritizing) multiple tasks on multiple projects
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities and strong attention to detail
  • Exceptional analytical, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with a proactive, problem-solving attitude.
  • Proficient in Google Workspace (particularly Sheets and Slides) and project management tools like Monday.
  • Strong ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment, with excellent time management skills.
